Republic story reminds us that drought is real

If you were reassured by the recent front page headline in a local newspaper proclaiming an inch of rain, don't miss the front page article in the Thursday, Aug. 12 edition of The Arizona Republic headlined "LAKE MEAD AT 54-YEAR LOW." It's an eye opener and a stark reminder that Arizona and the Southwest remain mired in a nasty drought.

"Drought-stricken Lake Mead has dropped an additional 10 feet since last summer, and now, Arizona and other Colorado River users are scrambling to keep the reservoir full enough to avoid water rationing," the article by Reporter Shaun McKinnon begins.
