RANT & RAVE: Posted Aug. 18, 2010

Editor’s note: Each week we print a selection of anonymous rants and raves submitted by our readers. Keep them under 250 words, free of profanity and personal attacks, and have at it. Time for oldest Christian Republican rodeo
Boy howdy! It’s time for the country’s oldest continuous annual Christian Republican Rodeo (in Payson, Arizona). Let us observe the accelerated suffering of animals, flat, empty patriotism, public magical thinking, pandemic obesity and the extinction of the educated middle class. Yippiekeyay!

Winslow cares more about Main St. than Payson
Lat week we drove through Winslow, Ariz. They are in the process of renovating their main street, by narrowing the road with small islands for street lighting and making it a more attractive, pedestrian friendly environment. The very next night we drove down Payson's main street and saw the sorry site. It reminded me of the very intelligent decision our town council made when they returned $300,000.00 to the state because it would cost the town $17,000. What investor would ever call that a smart more. We could have had a good start to making our main street a beautiful place to shop and walk. If little Winslow could do it why can't we? But of course we can spend $10,000 plus benefits on loud mouth Vogel to recruit businesses for Payson. How many businesses does it take to make up $300,000 of free money?

Come on weather forecasters – get with it
I realize forecasting the weather is still an imperfect science, but I wish the weather people on the local Valley stations would temper their forecasts with a disclaimer. One recent Saturday we altered our plans after a Valley forecaster said a full day of rain throughout the state was a sure thing. He was wrong. It sprinkled for a few minutes. Weekends are too precious to be held hostage by TV weather forecasters.

Time for us Pine-Strawberry folks to get off our butts
We fine people in Pine and Strawberry NEED TO GET OFF OUR BUTTS! What is it going to take to get our attention. The (Pine Strawberry Water Improvement) District Board is banking on our apathy. The rats aren't leaving the ship - they have already left! If this were 2005 or 2006 or maybe 2011 it would be a disaster. When are we going to wake up! The Board works for us. They spend our money. Their duty is to us. If we aren't going to take these people to task, who is? We wanted a district. We got one. We wanted a water company. We got two. We wanted control over our own destiny without regulation. We haven't. We can't even keep VOLUNTEER people working for us. Again, wake up - what is it going to take?

Alexander not a good choice for GCC supporters
Gila Community College Supporters, if there is ever a hope of us getting an independent community college, when you look at who is funding Keith Alexander, I don't think he is the guy who will be there to help us. He talks a good talk but says something different in Graham than he does in Gila. Konopnicki has groomed him well.

What happened to don’t print until you verify?
I’m a retired newspaper guy, and I want to give my thanks to (Mogollon Connection Editor) Matt Brabb for the coverage of an ASU campus coming to Payson. Like the rest of you, I am amazed at how easily the number $550 million rolls off Kenny the Who’s tongue and off the nimble fingers of Puppet Pete Aleshire. Whatever happened to don’t print until you verify?  It's the second rule we learned in J school, right after who, what, where, when and why.

(Editor’s note: We agree. To read Matt’s story, click on the EDUCATION tab at the right and scroll down.)
