Water concerns on minds of Gazette ranters

Editor’s note: Each week we print a selection of anonymous rants and raves submitted by our readers. Keep them under 250 words, free of profanity and personal attacks, and have at it. During the Star Valley Council Meeting on June 15, Council Member (Vern) Leis stated that if Star Valley does not accept the Water IGA from Payson that the Town of Star Valley will cease to exist. (What has he been smoking?) The way I see it based on the financial responsibility that this puts on the Town of Star Valley is that this IGA will bankrupt the Town of Star Valley and then it will cease to exist. Wake up Star Valley residents before it is too late!

Just wanted to let you know that I liked your water story in the July 14 Mogollon Connection (Off the Rim: "Water woes will haunt us if we ignore them"). I wish we could get the Star Valley residents to recognize what their leaders are up to before it's too late. We need to get the word out somehow. Thanks for your efforts.

Editor's note: several rants mentioning Ray Pugel have been removed to comply with a letter from his attorney and to avoid a lawsuit.

The news from PSWID just keeps getting worse. How embarrassing. The Board's belief they are awash in water is misguided. Winter precitation will not always be what it was in winter last. The water situation hasn't changed and usage has likely increased. More water is needed, immediately. The water issues confronting the PSWID Board are long term issues. If the board of the people here in Pine and Strawberry think a successful district will have a board that is whipsawed by new members coming and going with elections they are sadly mistaken. And that is the problem. The business of running a water district and the public board approach to doing so are contrary to one another. The current PSWID board will never figure that out!

The Payson Community Kids recently had a fundraiser for their non-profit after school program. There was less of a turnout than for the (recent) Humane Society (of Central Arizona) fundraiser. What's wrong with this picture? Children are our future and people care more about the animals than the children? I am sadly ashamed of the residents of Payson.

More people have pets than children.

The animals in the Humane Society are innocent victims of human negligence.

People shouldn't have kids if they can't afford them.

I will give money and time to save innocent animals, but parents seem to think everyone else should support their kids.

Parents get tax breaks and other benefits for their kids, paid for (indirectly) by higher taxes paid by people who don't have kids.

Yet they always have their hands out for more more more and now you're grousing because people choose to support animals, who do not benefit from tax breaks.

You're ashamed of the residents of Payson who choose how to express their compassion? I'm ashamed of your arrogance in judging others' choices.
