O’Brien was chosen for his outstanding support of Agricultural Education and FFA chapters from the district level. He notes that "to be affiliated with Arizona FFA in any capacity is an honor, as this is a wonderful student support organization. This award came as a huge surprise and I owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Stevens and our local FFA".
