Main Street the place to be for Fourth festivities

It's all happening this 4th of July weekend in the Heart of Payson – on historic Main Street.

4th of July festivities begin with the First Friday Block Party from 5-8 p.m. when the merchants stay open late. At this monthly gathering, townsfolk and tourists can become acquainted with local merchants and all of the services and merchandise they offer.

In addition, look for the crafters up and down Main Street as the Payson Main Street Guild adds even more First Friday excitement.

Come enjoy guitar vocalist Joanie Smith with saxophonist Robert Tarallo and drummer Gerry Reynolds performing standard romantic ballads and jazz tunes during First Friday at Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main Street.

The church serves dinner and refreshments for $5. However, you are welcome to come just to listen to  the music, which begins at 5 p.m. and concludes around 7 p.m.

Right in the center of Payson's historic business district at 520 W. Main Street is Bootleg Alley Antiques & Art. Musician Brandon Shepard headlines this month's First Friday event.

While listening to the soft rock and light country sounds of Brandon at Bootleg Alley, attendees can dine on brats served up by the Kiwanis. Those looking for dessert can purchase ice cream from Scoops and/or See's Chocolates from the Soroptimists.

In addition to great shopping, there's much more happening on Bootleg Alley's porch. Local western artist, Conrad Okerwall will be demonstrating his artistic skill and meeting the public.

The Humane Society of Central Arizona will be selling raffle tickets and accepting donations. You can also purchase your tickets for 1920s Passport to Paris, Payson Community Kids first annual gala event. There's something for everyone at this historic building located at 520 W. Main St., Payson's most happenin' little shop.

Crafters and swappers will also be found on Main Street on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Then don't forget to hang around for the always fun and exciting 4th of July Parade on Saturday at 5 p.m.
