Payson Unified School District (PUSD) is pleased to announce that there will be three sections of all-day kindergarten, with one section at each elementary school (Julia Randall, Payson and Frontier) for the 2010-2011 school year. After the Arizona State Legislature cut funding for all-day kindergarten, Payson Schools decided to offer Kinder Plus, a tuition-based option for all-day kindergarten.
Families responded to the Kinder Plus all-day program in numbers large enough to support three classes with 20 students per class. Families still interested in Kinder Plus may call their local elementary school to be placed on a waiting list.
More good news affecting kindergarten is that the district has determined that it will offer transportation to and from school for ½ day kindergarten students who live outside the town limits of Payson. Transportation for full-day students is available via normal bus routes. Please note that transportation for eligible ½ day kindergarten students will not begin until Monday, August 2.
In an effort to provide more instructional time for elementary students, the school day for each elementary school has been extended by 15 minutes. All-day kindergarten and grades 1 through 5 will attend from 8 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. Morning half-day kindergarten will run from 8 until 11 a.m. Afternoon half-day kindergarten will go from 11:45 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.
Students new to the district and kindergartners who will be five years old before Sept. 1, 2010 should register before school starts July 28. Documents required for registration in Payson Schools include immunization record, birth certificate and proof of residence with a current utility bill or rental agreement. For more information on kindergarten, registration, transportation, school schedules and calendars, call the Payson Schools District Office at 474-2070.
