A longtime resident of Payson, she was born March 12, 1941 in Cheyenne, Wyo. To Kenneth G. Marpel and Lelia Mae Marpel. She grew up in Cheyenne and graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1959. Sme moved to Phoenix in 1984 and met and married Dick Wolfe in 1986. They moved to Payson in 1992.
While living in Payson, Marilyn started the Community Electric Light Parade, which became an annual event. She was a board member of the Tonto Community Concert Association (TCCA) and served as president for eight years, spearheading the fundraising campaign for the acquisition of a concert grand piano.
As a gifted musician, she shared her talents as organist and pianist for Payson United Methodist Church for 18 years. She also served as a board member and treasurer for the Zane Grey Cabin Foundation. She was also a member of the school bond committee and was a member of PEO Chapter DF.
During Marilyn’s time in Payson, she was always willing to help any good community cause, serving on many committees that enhanced the quality of life in Payson. Among various community service awards, she was named Main Street Individual of the Year in 2003.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her beloved husband Dick, her two children. Lori Ebbesonof Longmont, Colo. And Jim Waechter of Charles City, Iowa, and her sister, Sherry Manis of Lenexa, Kan. She is also survived by two stepsons, Don Wolfe of San Diego, Calif., and Robert Wolfe of Phoenix, Ariz., as well as several great grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Payson United Methodist Church at 414 North Easy Street.
