Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores announced her office has recognized Detective Michael McAnerny from the Payson Police Department as the Officer of the Quarter. The award was presented to McAnerny on April 6 during the Gila County Board of Supervisors meeting in appreciation of his service, professional attitude, and assistance to the County Attorney’s Office.
Detective McAnerny was hired by the Payson Police Department in 2006. He previously worked for six years with the Phoenix Police Department. While with Payson P.D. he served as a patrol officer and the Payson High School Resource Officer. Detective McAnerny was promoted to Detective in May of 2009 and quickly demonstrated that his promotion was well-deserved. He also won the annual Officer of the Year Award for 2009 from the Payson Rotary Club.
Detective McAnerny is very professional and his passion and energy are infectious. He never runs out of energy and he will not end his investigation until all leads have been exhausted. As an example, Detective McAnerny was able to put together four cases against one suspect for defrauding four separate business victims. In one of these cases, he received surveillance video from a bank wherein a woman who was in a distinctive damaged truck was seen withdrawing cash using a company ATM card. Detective McAnerny was able to prove that the truck being driven in the photo belonged to the suspect by following leads and questioning four subsequent owners of the vehicle to correctly identify the suspect based on the surveillance photo of her truck.
Detective McAnerny does a thorough job with each and every one of his cases and he will always take the time to meticulously document his investigation in a complete report. He works to see that victims of criminal activity have the satisfaction of having their cases completed in a timely manner and that he provides a quality service to each of those who have been victimized.
