RANT & RAVE: Posted April 12, 2010

Editor’s note: Each week we print a selection of anonymous rants and raves submitted by our readers. Keep them under 250 words, free of profanity and personal attacks, and have at it. (Connection Editor) Matt Brabb’s 's editorial about the sales tax increase touched one of my pet peeves. My other pet peeve is the newspapers (both of them, unfortunately) referring to Payson as "the town" as if Star Valley didn't exist.

Some people say they only buy the Roundup for the grocery ads. Here’s a better idea. Buy The Arizona Republic and you get the same Bashas’, Safeway and Walgreens ads and a whole lot more including state and national news and sports, what’s going on in the valley, $100s of dollars worth of coupons, a big fat Sunday paper, and on and on.  Best of all you’re not supporting mediocre journalism.

So the Forest Service is requiring an environmental impact study before it will allow an aboveground, summer only pipeline to carry water from Payson to Mesa del Caballo. Now the water will have to be trucked in. You tell me which is going to do more environmental damage – an aboveground temporary pipeline or a huge tanker truck spewing emissions along Houston Mesa Road all day long?

Pistol Pete Foaming Mouth Aleshire should stick to what he knows best – kissing up to Kenny Evans – and leave the health care (bill passing) stories to people who know what they’re talking about. I’m surprised he didn’t quote Kenny the Who on health care. Instead, he just allowed Jan Brewer – who knows about as much as Pistol Pete does about health care – to go way beyond anything we care about. I never thought I’d say it, but I miss (former Roundup reporter) Michael Maresh. At least you couldn’t understand what he was writing about – until, that is, he got ahold of John Hanna. Can’t we just send this paper and its people back to Kansas? Just have them click their heels together and say, “There’s no place in the Rim Country for bad journalism…there’s no place in the Rim Country for bad journalism…

Was at a meeting last night where I heard a rumor – that the Town of Payson is going to keep Mike Vogel on to work on economic development after his council term expires. Say it ain’t so. Because if it is, that is a direct slap at the voters who resoundingly said they don’t want Vogel around anymore.

Now Kenny (Evans) is claiming Donald Trump recently snuck into payson looking for investment opportunities? When pigs fly, my gullible fellow citizens, will the Donald come to payson. C’mon people, we are being duped, and the more we buy into Kenny’s pronouncements the grander the lies become. In my best Sarah Palin, I say we put Kenny in our crosshairs and find a woman who can whup him in the next election.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK, I have to admit I also read the Roundup, but I’m here to report that I’ve actually learned something from doing so. I’ve learned that they read your blog from head to toe. It’s obvious when they are responding to something they saw on your blog – like the fact that Lake Havasu City is getting an ASU satellite campus despite not having Mayor Kenny’s secret channels. I think LHC is to be congratulated for landing a campus without having to put up $70 million. Have we forgotten that our own Gila Community College began in a strip mall location. You don’t need ivory towers for learning to take place. GCC proved that back in the early days.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Have you heard the latest.  According to Mayor Kenny, we may not get an ASU campus -- it may be some other university.  As long as we're dreaming, I cast my vote for Harvard.
