The
Arizona Department of Health Services will use a random selection
process to award certificates for medical marijuana dispensaries in
competitive districts. In May,
the department received 486 dispensary applications. Most met State
qualifications and will be considered for certification.
WHAT: Random selection of dispensaries
WHEN: 9 a.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2012
ONLINE:

The Arizona Medical Marijuana Act, passed by voters in November 2010,
allows the Department to license up to one dispensary for every 10
licensed pharmacies in the State.
In order to ensure that dispensaries are not clustered in urban areas
and to provide access to qualifying patients in rural areas, the
Department allocated the dispensaries according to the Community Health
Analysis Area (CHAA) system. There are 126 CHAAs
throughout the state, and each will be allocated one dispensary.
Because of space limitation, ADHS is streaming the selection process online for the public.
