87 resurfacing between 202 and Gilbert

The Arizona Department of Transportation is starting a project to resurface State Route 87 between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and Gilbert Road in the East Valley Monday night (Aug. 20).

Nighttime work requiring lane restrictions in either direction along SR 87 will take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights next week (Aug. 20-23).

The asphalt milling and paving work will initially take place along the highway’s left lanes and should not impact access to cross streets within the work zone.

Crews are due to work at night along the right lanes during the week of August 27-30, which will require some cross street access restrictions. Detours will be in place.

ADOT asks drivers to obey speed limits and work zone signage.

Daytime lane restrictions are anticipated by mid-September when crews add a thin top layer of pavement along the highway.

The pavement improvement work will not take place on weekends, including the Labor Day holiday weekend. Factors such as weather and equipment maintenance can affect work schedules.

The entire project, including guardrail improvements and final lane striping, is scheduled for completion this fall.
