KNAU knocked off the air for days by errant tube

PERSPECTIVE

If you've wondered why you haven't been able to pick up KNAU (the National Public Radio station operated by Northern Arizona University) for several days, it's because of a tube that blew up on a mountain near Flagstaff (how's that for a technical explanation and who would've thought they still use tubes).

We're big KNAU fans and financial supporters in this radio-starved market, so when we were unable to get a signal at their transmitter location (93.5 FM), we went to their main signal (88.7 FM).  Nothing but static for several days.

So we called the station and were told what the problem was and that there was a guy up on the mountain as we spoke.  It's a $2,200 repair job, so keep those donations flowing and we'll soon have Car Talk, Garrison Keillor, classical music and fair, unbiased news reporting back on the air.
