Republic story on pit bulls in shelters a must read

Pit bulls and pit bull mixes are among the more common breeds at shelters around the state, including our own Humane Society of Central Arizona.  An article in today's Arizona Republic points out that the problem is based on an undeserved reputation.

The must read article in today's (Feb. 9) Arizona Republic is about the growing problem of pit bulls filling animal shelters and often ending up euthanized more often than other breeds because of an often undeserved reputation for meanness.  Our own Humane Society of Central Arizona has long experienced a disproportionate number of pit bulls and pit bull mixes.

The good news, the Republic reports on the front page of Valley & State is that pit bull owners and shelter officials are launching an educational campaign to overcome the misperception.  Pick up a copy of today's Republic or click here to read the whole story: www.news.azcentral.com.

And remember, home delivery of the Republic, including the big Sunday paper, Bashas' and Safeway grocery inserts, hundreds of dollars worth of coupons, complete sports and TV coverage and much more, is just a toll-free phone call away: 1-800-332-6733.  It's by far your best newspaper value.
