Biggest hero in Tucson: Sheriff Clarence Dupnik

My Hero: Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik

PERSPECTIVE

PERSPECTIVE

I know this will enrage my right wing friends, but I have a new hero - Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.

When he first popped up on the tube Saturday, I groaned to The Consort, "Oh no, here comes another one of those idiot Arizona sheriffs (see Joe Arpaio)."

Was I wrong.  This guy is so insightful, so on the money, so absolutely right (sorry to borrow that word) in his assessment of why it happened.  I'm not saying Democrats and lefties aren't guilty as well, but you have to admit that Beck and Limbaugh and Palin and others of their ilk have taken bombastic political diatribe to a whole new level.

Please read Dupnik's words and tell me honestly that you can't find at least a kernel of truth therein:

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government.  The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous.  And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the capital.  We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

Keep giving them hell, Sheriff Clarence!

PS: In the interest of civil discourse, those who disagree will enjoy the Arizona Republic's Jan. 11 editorial, headlined: "PIMA COUNTY SHERIFF SHOULD REMEMBER DUTY."  (Go to opinions.azcentral.com to read it)  Let's disagree if we must, but let's tone down the rhetoric.  Some of my very best friends are right wingers.  We either ignore politics or we respect where each other is coming from.

If you respond thoughtfully, I will post your response whether I like it or not.

His job is solve a crime and find out the reasons why it happened--not to speculate and get on a political horse. Should check his job description. Has he ever wated the vitrol that comes out of Obermann and Maddow? Oh please!

You sir are a hypocritical, unfair biased American which I have no desire to even meet. If I can do you or the Gazette and that idiot sheriff any NON-PHYSICAL harm, i.e. social/economic, consider it done and my privelege.

"at least a kernel of truth therein" can be heard from both sides. To believe that Dupnik is insightful and on the money because there may be a "kernel of truth" in his statement is setting the bar pretty low.

I don't know what "wated the vitriol" means,

but no matter where it comes from, antagonistic, threatening public comments, have no legitimate place in a country dedicated to the uplifting of its people.

Anon would be the first to insist on Freedom of Speech, but not apparently for Sheriff Dupnik.

This public servant has proven his dedication and ability consistantly. He can certainly be allowed a comment.
