Last Thursday the sale of Chaparral Pines was finalized through bankruptcy court when previous development owners, Crescent Resources, LLC., sold their assets to Buffalo Golf, LLC.
The new owners of Chaparral Pines, which includes a country club, an 18-hole golf course, and a homeowners association (HOA), will be comprised of individual investment partners affiliated with Buffalo Golf.
Longstanding club members Steve and Linda Loy will embody key representation for Chaparral Pines. Another investor is said to be legendary professional golfer Phil Mickelson.
Thomas Jacobson, Vice President of Crescent, says that Crescent developers will still have some ownership within the community.
“We handed over the day to day stuff with the association,” said Jacobson. “We, the seller, gave them complete control of the HOA.”
Steve Drury, Chaparral Pines homeowner and a member of The Golf Club at Chaparral Pines facility since 1998, served on the HOA board until the recent sale was settled last week. Drury said that the result of the proposed membership change was favored 7-1 by the board.
A new board will soon be appointed or elected under new ownership.
Drury says that most individuals within Chaparral Pines are excited about the changes, and believe it will open up opportunities for local residents to become more involved with the community, including getting club memberships.
“This washes away every element of bankruptcy since the court approved the sale to be free of Crescent,” said Drury.
East West Partners Club Management were the previous managers of the golf course and country club, with Mark Lyons as the acting General Manager.
Buffalo Golf has hired OB Sports as the operating company to manage the club, but Lyons will continue to remain General Manager for the facility.
OB Sports currently operates more than 35 golf courses and country clubs across the country. Club employees will continue their duties under the employment of OB Sports.
“People are excited about it,” said Jacobson. “Mark Lyons is planning a roll-out party for the community on Dec. 3 to disclose changes. The overall plan is to make the club better and more accessible to the Payson Community.”
The Rim Country Golf Club, just across the highway from Chaparral Pines, is also experiencing changes as it breaks free from Crescent Resources.
While Jacobson admits that the Rim Country asset has been handed off to its members, the community still has ties to the development company.
“Crescent turned over the club to its members, but they are still fighting within the bankruptcy court about the grounds and club,” said Drury.
