14th Annual Chili Supper is for animals, little guys

Photos by Jim Keyworth
When you come to 14th Annual Chili Supper Tuesday evening, you get to eat homemade cupcakes...

...so that guys like this will have sweaters to wear and food in their bowls as they fend off yet another winter at the decrepit animal shelter on McLane Road.

Forget the fancy country club stuff for the rich because the signature social event of the year for the little guy is here once again.

If you’re one of those chili-lovers, you must come to the PAWS (Payson Area Woofers Society) 14th Annual Chili Supper on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The smells of yummy chili will emanate from the Elks Lodge on Airport Road from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

This editor has lived here 12 years, and I can't remember missing a year.  It's just a plain old small town fun time.  You'll see lots of people you know.  You can't find a better cause.  And, of course, the food is just this side of scrumptious.
For just $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12, you’ll enjoy a tasty meal of chili, macaroni and cheese, salad, rolls and homemade cupcakes. Tickets are available at the Humane Society of Central Arizona (HSCAZ) shelter, 812 S. McLane Road; the Humane Society Thrift Store, 404 W. Main Street; the Payson Public Library; the Chamber of Commerce office, and at the door.

Along with the great eats, you can take a chance or two on the 50/50 or U-Pic raffles, or stop at the Humane Society Raffle table where there you can purchase raffles tickets for the Cardinals Football Basket. The Cardinals will be playing the St. Louis Rams on Dec. 5 starting at 2:15 p.m. Four tickets located in Section 403, plus parking, NFL Cardinals’ team logo items and much more, donated by Jim and Sue Lewin of Lewin and Associates, LLC., for only $25 per raffle ticket.

Other raffles include “Gourmet on the Go” Adventure basket with two tickets for a 30-minute flight over the Rim with CAVU Aviation, $180 value, a Day Pass to the Tonto Natural Bridge; a Longaberger basket valued at $165, St. DalFour ready to eat items, fruit spreads and more a $505 value. Tickets are 2 for $5 or 5 tickets for $10.

Also, a beautiful four Peaks Amethyst Ring, donated by Payson Jewelers, valued at $400 tickets are 5 for $6. There will be a Plush 53” Big Brown Teddy Bear seated at the table, donated by Dr. Risser, tickets are $1 each. You need not be present to win any of the above raffles.

A beautiful Boutique will be set up for you to browse and purchase items for Christmas gifts, all terrific items have been donated by our generous local businesses and individuals in the Payson and Rim Country area.

“Blue Frog” a 5-piece blues band will be playing for your enjoyment in the bar area. Come and enjoy the food, family or friends and great music.

All proceeds will go to benefit the homeless animals of Rim Country. It’s the perfect opportunity to have a great evening and to contribute to a worthy cause all at the same time. If you have tickets to see the New Christy Minstrels at 7 p.m., don't worry. You can enjoy the chili supper and still have plenty of time to get to the concert.

For more information about the event, contact PAWS member Donna Rokoff at (928) 472-1542 or Humane Society volunteer Betty Raveling at (928) 468-7132.

See you there!
