'Biker rally calm' classic example of a non-story

When a front page headline reads "Biker rally calm," what is the paper really saying?  That bikers are normally troublemakers?  Bad news?  Unsavory characters?

References to cops within 10 feet of every biker wouldn't do much to make me feel welcome if I were a biker.  Or very willing to come back next year.

And the vivid account of the altercation at 87 and 260 should have been left to the police report -- if it got mentioned at all.

Here's how we would have handled it: If the event was as incident-free as it seems to have been, it would be a non-story.  For us, in fact, it was.

But then we think bikers are just like the rest of us -- except they like to ride bikes.

Maybe it was a slow news Tuesday.
