Conte 'channels dance, song, rhyme into one'

A Mother's Day Music Celebration
Featuring Jazz Vocalist Zephryn Conte
2 p.m. Sunday, May 9
Community Presbyterian Church
800 W. Main Street in Payson

The Phoenix New Times said that "Zephryn Conte uses her omnipotent rhythmic abilities to channel dance, song and rhyme into one performance." And that's what we will have in a special Mother's Day performance given by this multifaceted performer, composer and author.

Paul Anderson at KJZZ said she is an "artist extraordinaire." She has been in the jazz and literary world since her childhood in Boston where she began as a dancer and writer. During a 20-year career in New York City, she composed for feature films, performed in a multitude of notable New York theaters and clubs, and sang on many nationally released recordings. A Grammy voting member and ASCAP composer, she continues to write, record, teach, and perform from her home in Arizona.

"What Zephryn does with a beat is easily defined: anything she wants," said the Phoenix New Times.

What she wants to do on this Sunday is to celebrate Mother, her emergence, unions and marriage, children and love relationships, family and friends, expansion and the ultimate acceptance of herself as she proceeds through life. Zephryn will do this through commentary and music.

Expect to hear the tunes "Fever," "When I Fall in Love," "Makin Whoopie," "Sometimes I'm Happy," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," "Masquerade," "Can't Buy Me Love," "In My Solitude," "Favorite Things," "On A Clear Day," "How Sweet It Is," and others.

Joining Zephryn will be a jazz trio composed of Claudia Bloom on piano, Steve Douglas on bass, and Gerry Reynolds on drums.

The performance is free and open to all in the community, so bring your family and friends too!
A voluntary donation may be made to this music program at the door.

Contacting Gerry Reynolds at gerryr@cox.net will assist in managing the head count. You may leave a message at 602-619-3355 if you prefer.
