Gila County libraries unveil new website, classes

Thanks to a grant from the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, Gila County Library District now has a new Web presence. Check us out at http://www.gcldaz.org

This new website provides access to all the public libraries within Gila County and as well as access to museums, numerous online resources supplied by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records and Gila County Library District, and library friends groups. Library patrons are now able to log on to their library accounts to renew items, place holds, and search the library catalog from one convenient location.

In addition to the website, the grant has made it possible for all the public libraries to host computer/internet classes for the general public. In these classes students are taught the basic skills needed to navigate the internet, including an introduction to the Gila County Library District Web Site and the online resources.

The Arizona State Library received more than $3 million during the 2010-2011 Fiscal Year under the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), which was administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Almost $1 million of the funding was awarded on a competitive basis to libraries in Arizona. The remaining funds were used to support statewide services, including family literacy and reading programs, electronic databases, digital government initiatives, continuing education classes and other programs.

“The Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records hs been pleased to support innovative projects that serve the people of Arizona with LSTA funding,” said Janet Fisher, acting Arizona State Librarian.

The Arizona State library, Archives and Public Records is a state agency dedicated to ensuring that the Arizona Legislature and Arizonans have access to the information they need today, and the history of Arizona for tomorrow, through partnerships with all types of cultural and public information institutions.
