Featured artist was going to become a doctor

The featured speaker at the June 15 meeting of the Payson Art League is Sarah Ellen McAnerny, a third generation Arizonan. Coming from a family of artists, painting and drawing just came naturally to her.

She attended Grand Canyon University earning a B.S. degree in Human Biology (suma cum laude) with the thought of going on to Medical School, but her passion for art still called to her. She had minored in Fine Studio Art, and as a graduation present in 2000, sent herself to Europe for the summer to study art and history. She returned home knowing that she had to find a way to make a living doing what she loved.

She worked to become an accomplished muralist, and commercial artist and illustrator, creating a huge library of best selling designs for major retailers and manufacturers as a tableware, tile, home décor, and textile designer. Her designs have been featured in major publications such as Phoenix Home and Gardens, Cooking with Paula Deen, Better Homes and Gardens, and many others. She currently has a line of ceramic tableware and wall décor carried in stores such as Dillards, Kohls, JC Penny, Bed Bath & Beyond, and other fine retailers.

Sarah will be sharing some of her info and experiences with making and marketing her hand painted tiles and accessories.

Payson Art League meeting is held at the Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road. Social time and a show and share session at 6:30. Meeting and presentation at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.
