Donn Morris will speak on artist's sketchbook
Rim Country artist Donn Morris will give a presentation on the use of the artist’s sketchbook at the April 16 Payson Art League monthly meeting. He has numerous sketchbooks from his years of travel which he will have at the meeting, showing some specifically, then others through a slide show.
Morris retired from full-time teaching seventeen years ago. As a high school art teacher for thirty-five years, he taught drawing, painting, art history, design, and drafting, among others. Now Donn and his wife can travel whenever they want and they go as often as they can. When he isn't traveling, he concentrates on producing art, working primarily in watercolor, but often in pencil, one of his favorite mediums.
Morris’ hope is that his work captures his interest in people, their place, their memories, their work, their play and their lives. “My opportunities to travel and see the works of so many fine artists have given me an appreciation for the magical power of art to move people emotionally and, in many ways, to change their lives. Until I retired, I was a teacher who painted, now I’m a painter who also teaches,” Morris says.
All meetings are held at the Rim Country Health and Retirement Center, 807 W. Longhorn at 6 p.m. with light refreshments served; the presentation begins
at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
