In an essay about education, one of my students recently
pointed out that President Obama needs to stop jetting around the world on
vacation junkets while he ignores the morass our education system is in.
And I had always thought it was the
Republicans who refused to spend money on our future generations. Closer to home, I had naively believed it was
the Republican-controlled Arizona Legislature that was choking our schools to
an underfunded death.
I am so glad to be
enlightened.
What made me realize the cumulative errors in my logic was
the recent Republican claim that Obama has been softer on terrorism than his
predecessor (you remember “W”). To come
to this conclusion, the GOP counted bodies lost under Obama vs those lost under
Bush.
Of course, they started counting
the day after 9/11. How could you blame
Bush for that one when he was off reading a book to elementary school children
when it happened? And doesn’t that prove
how much Republicans really do care about education?
Now I’ve come to understand how it’s Obama’s fault that the
Boston Marathon bombers were running free even though the Russians tried their
darndest to warn us. If he had just spent
a little time combing through the list of potential terrorists, picked
out a couple to look into, then made a well-placed call (he is the President),
I’m sure he would have nailed those Tsarnaev boys before they’d bought a single pressure cooker.
I know some of you pointy-headed intellectuals are thinking all of this is tinged with just a hint of racism. But it has nothing to do with the fact that Obama is black. Or half-black, which is the same thing.
At last Obama is a man. Next thing you know,
those shifty Democrats will try to run a woman for president.
It’s a darn good thing we still have the
right to stockpile automatic weapons, ammo and pressure cookers.
In the end, that’s what’s going to carry the day.
