Norm Chomsky on why right hates Social Security

"...there’s a ... subtle reason why they’re opposed to it, and I think it’s rather similar to the reason for the effort to pretty much dismantle the public education system. Social Security is based on a principle. It’s based on the principle that you care about other people. You care whether the widow across town, a disabled widow, is going to be able to have food to eat.

"And that’s a notion you have to drive out of people’s heads. The idea of solidarity, sympathy, mutual support, that’s doctrinally dangerous. The preferred doctrines are just care about yourself, don’t care about anyone else. That’s a very good way to trap and control people.

"And the very idea that we’re in it together, that we care about each other, that we have responsibility for one another, that’s sort of frightening to those who want a society which is dominated by power, authority, wealth, in which people are passive and obedient.

Noam Chomsky is Professor Emeritus at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he taught for more than 50 years. He is author of dozens of books. An updated edition of his book 9-11 has just been published, called "9-11: Was There an Alternative?"

This guy is a professor and this is his answer? It's not about helping others it is about a finanical program which our government has radied to pay the bills and secured with bonds. The problem is there is no money to make good on the bonds so the government either borrows or prints money to meet their obligations. That hurts everyone because either the debt or inflation caused by printing money is borne by every taxpayer. Remember the government do not generate one dollar of revenue which does not come out of our pockets. Perhaps the writer should teach at a much lower level.

Mr. Anonymous... Let me guess you were perfectly willing to declare support with your real name the unfunded tax cuts and unfunded declaration of TWO Wars by your right wing hero George W. Bush. Those three events had more to do with the reason we have no money today than Social Security that was promised to all of America's working class and paid into by them.

If someone on the right writes or says that social security is in trouble money wise or needs to be revised all of a sudden to the liberals everyone on the right hates social security, or if one person at a tea party holds up a sign they don't like all of a sudden the whole tea party is guilty. Why dont they just key in on the individual that did whatever they don't like and make their point. The reason to me is clear their trying to paint everyone with the same brush to make them look bad.
