MESA DEL CABALLO UPDATE

Mesa del Water Committee reports that
Brooke is working to get Blue Ridge water

The Mesa del Caballo Water Committee reports that despite misinformation in a media outlet other than the one you’re reading, Brooke Utilities has been negotiating since February, 2009, with Salt River Project and the Town of Payson to insure that Mesa del Caballo has adequate rights to Blue Ridge Reservoir water.

The Water Committee, in cooperation with Brooke Utilities, is trying to make the water situation much better before this summer arrives, according to committee member Ed Schwebel.

The initial surveying for the hydrologic/geologic study for Mesa del Caballo was completed on Monday of this week. After the study is finished, Brooke will have the information needed to decide if a new well in Mesa del Caballo would have a reasonable chance of getting us the water we need.

The proposed new conservation levels (click on MESA DEL CABALLO tab in the right hand column and scroll down to read them) still have to be approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission.

“Our community still has a lot of hurdles to get past but the picture looks much better than it did a few months ago,” Schwebel said.

HOUSTON MESA ROAD CLEANUP

Mesa del Caballo resident Minnie Norman, who organizes the Houston Mesa Road cleanups, wants to thank those who participated Saturday morning.

“We had nine people cleaning the road today,” Norman reported. “We were only able to clean from Stallion Road toward the Beeline to our sign (it's on the east side before the camp ground). So hopefully in March when we do our next clean up we can get the road from Stallion toward the Shoofly Ruins to our sign plus the rest of the road.

“We collected 10 large bags of trash along with five tires! The area right next to the road wasn't too bad, but just off the road and down the sides it is ugly, so we did work on some of that too.

“We would like sometime to be able to get out the couches, hot water heaters, bed frames, etc. that have been tossed over the side. So if anyone has any suggestions on how, let me know.”

Minnie can be reached at 474-4454.
