Fire Facts:

Fire Start Date: Tuesday June 18, 2013

Location: 7 miles northwest of Prescott; burning in Granite Mountain Wilderness

Size: 6,767 acres 

Percent Contained: 40 percent. Full containment expected June 26

Cause: Human, under investigation

Number of Resources: 771 personnel including: 19 hand crews, 33 engines, 5 water tenders, 2 dozers and 7 helicopters

Injuries to Date: 1 (minor eye abrasion)

Estimated Cost to Date: $4,346,700

General Announcements:
Evacuations were lifted yesterday at 5 p.m. for the Williamson Valley Road corridor, including American Ranch, Sundown Acres, Cielo Grande, Stazinski Road and Mint Creek Ranch. Checkpoints remain in place and entry is limited to residents only, with proof of residency. Evacuations remain in effect for Granite Basin, Alto Recreation Area, Blackjack and Anytown Camp.

Residents returning to their homes are urged to be cautious. Firefighters and apparatus continue to work in the area. Flare-ups are possible along the fire perimeter.

The Prescott National Forest emergency fire closure and Stage II fire restrictions remain in place.

Community Meeting:  A community meeting will be held at 6 p.m. this evening at the Ruth Street Theater at Prescott High School.

Weather:
The weather is expected to be slightly cooler but remaining dry, with winds again gusting to 25 mph in the afternoon. 

Today’s Activities:
Firefighters will continue rehabilitation of fire lines. On the northwest flank, crews will resume building direct fire line in steep terrain, after spiking out nearby last night. On the eastern side, helicopters will again dump water and foam above Granite Basin Lake to stop fire from backing downhill. Crews will continue to monitor the fire in some of the less active areas around the southern flank. A mobile retardant base has been established on the northeastern side to provide helicopters a nearby dip site. The night crews will transition to a swing shift this afternoon.

Road Closures:
Williamson Valley Road between Pioneer Parkway and Outer Loop Road is open to the public, but entry into subdivisions in the area is limited to those with proof of residency.

Fire Closure Update:
The entire area of the Doce Fire is closed to public access, including the Doce Pit Road off Iron Springs Road. The closure area can be viewed at the Prescott National Forest webpage at: www.fs.usda.gov/prescott
