Payson Ranger District fire personnel will ignite vegetative debris in the Pine Pit on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. The Pine Pit is located about one-tenth of a mile east of Hwy. 87 and south of Control Road 64.
Residents and visitors to the area can expect to see and smell heavy amounts of smoke during the operation and smoke will linger in the area for several days. Smoke during the day will move toward Camp Geronimo. Diurnal air flow in the evening hours will move residual smoke down Sycamore Creek and into the East Verde River corridor.
