PRESCOTT – The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will close Airport Road at the intersection of Arizona State Route 87 in Payson from 6 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 18) until noon the following Friday (Sept. 24). The closure will provide a safe work zone for crews constructing the new roundabout.
In addition to the closure at Airport Road, southbound 87 will be reduced to one lane to accommodate paving in the right lane.
During the Airport Road closure, motorists can access residential and business properties via a clearly marked detour on the north and south boundaries of the project work zone. The detour will direct drivers from Houston Mesa Road and Forest Drive to McLane Road for access to Airport Road.
For more information regarding this project or to receive weekly construction e-updates, call the project hotline at 1-877-521-1118 or e-mail prescottdistrictupdates@azdot.gov.
As always, drivers are reminded to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule. To stay up-to-date with the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center at www.az511.gov or call 5-1-1.
