The lightning-caused fire is burning
2 miles west of the Tonto Fish Hatchery in the Big Canyon
area near the Highline Trail, approximately 14 miles east of Payson,
Arizona,
in a rough and remote section of the Tonto National Forest, accessible only by air and on foot.
“Today crews will mop up the west flank of the fire, monitor the north
flank, and continue to hold and improve the fire line on the east
flank.” stated Incident Commander
Dave Ramirez. “Fire activity was low yesterday. We continue to make
good progress despite the challenging terrain.”
