The public is welcome to attend the Payson Art League (PAL) meeting on
Tuesday, July 16 at 6 p.m. The program
will consist of a round table discussion and demonstration of how to prepare painting
surfaces, such as canvas and how to use other supports like clay board for use
in drawings, pastels, scratchboard, acrylics and oils. There will also be a discussion of how to
seal finished works such as mixing and varied methods of application.
The discussion will be led by Rock Newcomb, a
local well-known award-winning artist who works primarily in acrylic. After a teaching career, he now
paints full time. His still life
paintings emphasize Pre-Columbian and historic
North American Indian objects.
Newcomb’s award-winning art has been included in several public
exhibitions, including the Smithsonian Institution, the Stockholm Museum of
Natural History, as well as the permanent collection of the Leigh Yawkey
Woodson Art Museum and the City of San Dimas, CA.
Newcomb encourages everyone to come to the
roundtable discussion with painting supports and art materials to work with and
use for show and tell. Be sure to have
your questions and suggestions ready, and pen and paper to keep up with all the
ideas you may want to use later.
The meeting will be held at the Rim Country Health and Retirement
Center, 807 W. Longhorn. Light
refreshments will be served.
