Payson, Ariz.
(March 7, 2013) – A 100-acre prescribed fire operation is projected in the Mesa del Caballo area to remove scattered slash
this Friday, dependent on weather conditions.
“This
prescribed fire treatment depends completely on receiving rain. If it
begins raining, we will start ignitions,” stated Payson Ranger District
fire prevention officer Gary Roberts “If it doesn’t rain,
we will not conduct prescribed fire treatments in the area that day.”
Residents and visitors to the area can expect to see and smell heavy amounts of smoke during the one-day operation.
When fire
operations begin, signs will be posted along roads that are likely to be
affected by smoke. Motorists are urged to use caution while driving
through these areas and to slow down for the safety
of firefighters and the public.
Prescribed
fire treatments are always dependent on optimal weather conditions,
such as fuel moisture content, temperature, relative humidity,
wind speed and direction, and other variables.
