Maybe this education thing is overrated

We would be remiss if we didn't pause briefly to decry Gov. Jan Brewer's appointment of right wing blogger Greg Patterson to the Arizona Board of Regents, the governing body for the state university system.

Lack of support for education is already a sick joke in Arizona (to the point where corporations are deciding not to locate here because of it), and Patterson's appointment only makes it worse.

Among the many reasons we don't like him much is his dismissal of some college degrees, including psychology, history, religious studies, political science, English literature and journalism.  Seems people who graduate with those academic majors don't make a lot of money at their chosen profession.

While they may not be lucrative majors, we wonder where our American society would be without people willing to become teachers, counselors, political scientists, journalists and even preachers.  And we wonder about the wisdom/foresight of a potential regent who can't see their value.

But then, maybe he's onto something.  Gov. Brewer can't speak a complete sentence and she's done pretty well for herself.
