Arrival of first son Sawyer is well worth the wait

Not bad, that. Quite striking, in fact, when quoted a day after the birth of one’s first son. Thanks Andy.

Our regular readers may notice that a column that has appeared in every edition of the Payson/Star Valley version of the Mogollon Connection is absent this week. “Pregnancy 101,” written by that extremely talented writer, Mitzi Brabb, was not submitted on time this past week. We’re looking into possible reasons for this.

Kidding aside, it is my pleasure to announce that our son, Sawyer Lee Brabb, is the newest member of the Rim Country community. Had you read my wife’s most recent column, you might be aware that he was a bit late in arriving, 10 days in fact. However, there were no complications, and it is indeed one of the perks of being the editor of a paper that one can make this much noise about the birth of his or her child.

It goes without saying that it is also nice to be able to print a picture of him, along with his big sister Haley, just before leaving the hospital for home.

Speaking of our hospital, I want to give kudos to the folks at Payson Regional Medical Center. They were, from beginning to end, outstanding. I don’t know if there are more capable, considerate, or friendly staff available for expectant moms, but I doubt it. Twice now, they have done an amazing job for my family - many thanks.

When we arrived at the hospital last Thursday morning, it was like déjà vu. We were escorted to the same labor/delivery room that our daughter Haley was born in four years ago. Incredibly, the same nurse who took care of my wife in 2006 was with us again. She was wonderful, as was Dr. David Cluff, who attended the birth of both Haley and Sawyer.

So look for the return of Mitzi’s column next week. I’m not sure what it will be called, but it’s tough to keep her away from her laptop for long.

And again, thanks to the many of you who expressed interest and kind wishes for our family as we awaited developments. We’ve never felt so blessed and connected to this wonderful community.

(Gazette editor's note: The Gazette is a couple of Pregnancy 101 columns behind, so they will continue to run. And our congratulations to Matt and Mitzi on the addition of another young journalist in waiting to their family.)
